My quick takes on interesting articles, news and data that I’ve come across recently.
The new browser war might be upon us, but this time with an AI flavor. Perplexity, one of the hottest AI players, recently launched Comet, their own AI-native browser. Think Chrome or Safari, but built from the ground up with AI in mind, letting users harness AI to compare different Airbnb listings across multiple open tabs or even handle entire purchases autonomously. Other companies have also released their own AI browsers, and we can expect OpenAI and other tech giants like Google to follow suit soon, potentially sparking a new “browser war” — a term used to describe the fierce competition between Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Firefox from 1995-2001. Below is an interesting video that deep dives into and compares two of those AI browsers that will soon be available to everyone.
Recent research reveals how US adults are using AI. Unsurprisingly, young adults (under 30) tend to use AI more frequently than older adults. What really caught my attention, however, is the significant gap when it comes to brainstorming/coming up with ideas: 40% for general adults vs. 62% for young adults. This suggests that many people still view AI primarily as a tool for productivity or information retrieval. In reality, it can also be an excellent resource for generating ideas, providing feedback, and improving your own thinking (speaking from personal experience here). It also indicates that more people will likely begin using AI for creative tasks over time.
